Mother’s Love
Friedrich Nietzsche is quoted as saying, “Love is the only sane and satisfactory answer to the problem of human existence.” When I read this, I wondered how deeply Friedrich had deciphered the meaning and enigma of love together.
While there are millions of ways people have tried to define love based on their understanding and experiences, Friedrich said startled me completely. When I came across this quote, I pondered deeply on how Nietzsche had grasped the essence and mystery of love. While countless interpretations of love exist based on personal understanding and experiences, I believe Nietzsche articulated it best, unraveling this innate quality that distinguishes living beings from the inanimate universe. Love is intrinsic to every living being, offering a unique feeling and understanding to each of us, which explains why interpretations of it vary widely.
I wholeheartedly agree with Nietzsche’s view on love as a profound and invaluable attribute of life. Love, originating in the heart, possesses the remarkable ability to heal human wounds in ways that medicines and other substances cannot. It provides strength and a sense of fulfillment that material possessions often fail to deliver. Through love, we care for one another, nurturing bonds that can truly make the world a better place for everyone.
Throughout our lives, we experience love in various forms from different people, starting from birth. As social creatures, we naturally gravitate towards living in groups, whether small, like a family, or large, like a city or country. This universal truth leads us to encounter numerous individuals who play pivotal roles in shaping, nurturing, supporting, and guiding us through life’s challenges and joys. We receive diverse expressions of love from them, and reciprocally, we offer the same in return. This natural exchange enriches our lives and contributes to making the world a better place for everyone.
Without love, we risk losing our humanity, and the world can become a harsh and bleak place. Among the people who touch our lives and shower us with love, there is often someone who holds a unique and irreplaceable place in our hearts. I found such a person in my life over 41 years ago. From the moment she laid eyes on me, she began to like and love me. At that time, I couldn’t see her, recognize her, or comprehend the depth of her love for me. While I was unaware of her intense devotion, she continued to gaze at me day after day. Despite my ignorance, her dedication never wavered, and her care never diminished—a love that was unconditional, pure, and unmatched.
It took me a long time to truly feel and understand her love. I began to sense warmth and comfort when she held me close, and I felt absolute safety in her embrace. Whenever I was happy, I would eagerly seek her out; whenever sadness struck, she was my refuge. I started noticing that my happiness brought her joy, and my sorrow weighed heavily on her heart. They say that when your happiness brings joy to someone and your sadness brings sadness to them, it signifies pure love.
In this world, most relationships involve some form of transaction, reciprocation, or vested interest. However, there is one relationship that transcends all these dynamics—mother’s love. Indeed, this applies to the father’s love as well. It is unconditional and free from the give-and-take nature that characterizes so many other relationships.
One cannot fathom life without a mother. From the nurturing care during nine months in the womb to the lifelong guidance and support after birth, her presence is irreplaceable. It is said that heaven lies beneath her feet. She embodies the utmost care, boundless love, unwavering support, and unparalleled beauty in our lives. This Mother’s Day, let’s pledge to honor our mothers and serve them in the best possible way during the remainder of their life. Her happiness brings us joy in this world and promises rewards in the hereafter.
