It was a beautiful evening in November. Winter had started setting in, making the mornings and evenings pleasantly cool. Our classes were over by 5:30 pm, but I was in the department that day with some batchmates. I came down to drink water from the water outlet, which had a water filter and a cooler in it on the first floor. It was around 6 pm. I saw a reasonably tall, dark-eyed, swarthy young girl climbing the stairs from the ground floor. When she arrived near the cooler, which fell on the right side on the way up to the second floor, I offered the greeting almost spontaneously upon seeing her, without knowing her in advance.
‘Good evening…Kim, right?’ I asked her off the cuff.
‘Good evening! Sam…right?’ she responded in the same vein as if she also knew me.
I was perplexed. ‘Oh…you know me?’
‘You know me too…right,’ she shot back with a wide grin.
‘Yeah, I got to know you from Aliya….but I had never seen you before,’ I said.
‘Yes…Aliya said to me about you. But, I’ve known you since long back,’ she said with a very genuine tone. I was kind of amused to hear that she knew me well in advance. Still, I felt a little embarrassed thinking that Aliya would have apprised Kim of my flirtation with herself.

‘But how did you recognize me now from my face?’ she asked a valid question.
The fact is that I don’t have the answer to this question yet in my life, even after so many years.
‘Ah…I really don’t know this. But instinctively and spontaneously, your name came out of my mouth,’ I replied.
‘Sixth sense? Smart fellow.’ She said, giggling.
‘Oh yes…,’ I laughed out.
‘So… you are pursuing your MBA here?’ I asked in a lighthearted way, as I already knew this.
‘Yes. I am doing it in the part-time batch,’ she spoke very softly.
‘When are your classes held? In the evening?’
‘Yes. We have our classes normally from 6:30 pm’.
‘Okay…so you must be working somewhere?’ I asked to know the reason behind her decision to choose the part-time course.
‘Yes. I am working for a firm. My field is financial and accounting management,’ she explained.
‘Oh…that’s really beautiful….many hats together. So smart!’ I showered genuine praise on her.
‘Thank you so much. I will really keep in touch with you to get the guidance. I have heard a lot about you,’ she said, asking for permission to leave for the classes.
